Board members are recruited from the open market based on the needs of the organisation. They are, collectively and individually, appraised regularly. HCT also conducts periodic skills audits of our Board and Senior Executive team to ensure that we have the appropriate skill set in our governing team.
The board meets regularly and has a maximum of 12 members, and are appointed for a period of three years. Retiring directors may be reappointed for a second term of up to three years.

Appointed 2015 – 1st term
Ed has been CEO of Charity Bank, a bank run for and owned by social purpose organisations, since July 2018. He was previously Managing Director of Big Issue Invest (BII), the social investment arm of the Big Issue magazine group. He was closely involved in the structuring and raising of the BII’s two Social Enterprise Investment Funds and was responsible for the social and financial performance of BII’s loan and investment portfolios.
Ed has over 30 years of commercial banking, social investment and businessconsulting experience. He spent the early part of his career in corporate banking, mainly with Credit Suisse.
Prior to joining BII in 2008, Ed was Vice President at ShoreBank International (SBI), the international consulting division of ShoreBank, where he managed micro- and SME loan programmes in the developing world.
