What's it like working at HCT Group?

If you’re looking for a job where you feel like you’re part of a team, not part of a big machine, then HCT Group is for you. We’re proud that colleagues here say they are treated as an individual, not as a number. We’re committed to equality, and we value our staff and what they have to say.

Each year we conduct a staff satisfaction survey, giving colleagues a stronger voice. The survey explores how people feel about their role, the organisation and how communication and dialogue might be improved. Results are shared across the organisation, with each region developing an action plan to follow up on staff feedback.

Kemoy's Story

Kemoy started as a driver and has worked up to Operations Manager. He says HCT Group is not your normal bus operator – and it’s a great place to grow your career.

There is a bright future at HCT Group, says Kemoy, and so many opportunities to progress
There is a bright future at HCT Group, says Kemoy, and so many opportunities to progress

I first encountered HCT Group when I saw its community buses operating in my local area. I made contact and joined as an entry-level driver. I had originally thought to fund my way through my studies. However, it quickly became apparent that HCT Group provided opportunities for development. I had found a place where I could serve the community and develop as a professional – I was right where I belonged.

I now manage a contract providing transport for vulnerable passengers – children and young people with special educational needs, and older and disabled people – taking them from their homes to school or their activities and back, making sure they are always safe and comfortable.

My highest priority is health and safety, in terms of staff welfare and in vehicle operation and maintenance. I am also focused on running an efficient and effective service to the highest possible standard. The other main role I have is equally vital, engaging with all stakeholders, such as commissioners, heads of department, schools, parents and carers.

I believe HCT Group is the future of transport. Our ethos goes way beyond providing a safe and reliable journey for passengers; our existence for public benefit not private profit, our reinvestment back into the community, our support and development of staff set us apart from others. The numbers speak for themselves; over the past 20 years, HCT Group has grown at an average of 24% a year. I believe the future is really bright.

For anyone thinking of joining us? I’d say go for it! Transport is an essential public service that makes a real difference to people’s lives and, for a professional, it’s a great way to make a real contribution.
