Social Access joins the HCT Group
We are delighted to announce that Social Access (formerly Bristol Dial-A-Ride), has joined HCT Group.
Bristol’s other main community transport organisation, Bristol Community Transport (BCT), joined the Group in 2012, which means that the deal provides the opportunity to establish Bristol’s first citywide network of community transport services.
The idea is that, over time, we can provide the people of Bristol with an integrated citywide service, bringing together door to door transport/dial-a-ride, transport for community groups, community buses and travel training into one operation. This will help us to meet the increasing needs of vulnerable individuals, groups and the voluntary sector in the city.
“By coming together, we can provide a better transport service for more vulnerable people at a time when funding is under pressure.” said Hazell Houston, Chair of Social Access. “As social enterprises, the two organisations have a strong ethos of early intervention - helping people remain independent and able to access essential services.”
Social Access has moved its main operating centre to BCT’s premises in Parson St Bristol, while local hubs like The Vassall Centre will be maintained, helping to ensure easy access to transport for communities across the city.
Dai Powell, HCT Group Chief Executive, said “I am delighted to welcome Social Access into the Group. We are very excited to be bringing people and communities together and delivering greater social impact. We look forward to working with the local authority to make Bristol the UK’s most inclusive city.”
