Next steps after Independent Travel Training

We continue to support every young person after they’re travelling independently. What does this look like?

Travelling independently

We continue to support every young person after they’re travelling independently.

Observations

We complete an observation 3 months and 9 months after the young person has completed the programme, to see how they are travelling their home-to-school journey - and then a spot check at 12 months. This will be done by a Travel Trainer that is unknown to the young person so that they do not know they are being observed. This is to ensure that they are continuing to use all their new skills and are travelling safely.

Recommendations

We will then have a meeting with you and discuss the observation and any further recommendations for travel training.

We encourage you to try some new journeys with your young person, increasing their confidence to do other journeys by themselves. We also ask that you encourage your young person to keep their travel training skills up-to-date and increase their independence.

Keep in touch

We ask that you keep in touch with us on your young person’s progress and with any new places that your young person travels to. It is important for us to know how our programme is helping to change lives.
